Boron nitride BNBoron nitride (BN) when produced at extremely high pressures and
temperatures forms tiny reddish to black grains of cubic crystal structure
having hardness equal to diamond, and moreover is stable to
1,930°C (3,500°F). Abrasive powders, such as Borazon, are used extensively
for coated-abrasive applications as for grinding tool and die steels
and high-alloy steels, particularly where chemical reactivity of diamonds
is a problem. Ease of penetration and free-cutting action minimize
heat generation, producing superior surface integrity.
